I can’t believe there’s less than one month until all of the trips start! I’m so excited to serve, learn, and explore the great city of Chicago. I’m also nervous because I still have a couple of things to plan and think about before the trip. But, I have some awesome advisors that have really helped me figure out where I want to serve and how I want to run my trip.
I’m most excited for reflections during the trip. I really enjoy reflections because they get you to think about what you did that day, how you felt about it, and what you can learn from it. I remember feeling slightly uncomfortable during some reflections last year because they brought up topics I had never thought about before. Yet, I wasn’t afraid to talk and discuss with other participants during reflection times. Feeling uncomfortable pushed me to really think about some things and it pushed me out of my comfort zone.
I think that’s important in reflections because you can learn from your experiences and grow as a person. I can’t wait to facilitate reflections for my participants because I like talking things through and hearing other people’s thoughts. I hope my participants aren’t afraid to voice their thoughts and feelings because it’s a safe place to talk and I hope that they enjoy reflections as well.
