Last week I had the incredible opportunity to volunteer with a Bear Breaks trip to Aurora, Colorado. On this trip, we volunteered at Children’s Hospital Colorado. When we took a tour of the facility, I was so impressed by all of the initiatives the hospital has made to support the families that need them. Free massages for stressed families, a “creative play” room for siblings of patients, and patient visits from trained dogs are just a few of the amenities the hospital provides. I was able to volunteer in the Creative Play room, at an annual staff event for St. Patrick’s Day, and in outpatient clinic waiting areas to provide crafts and games. This trip and my volunteering experience taught me that it really does take a team to help a child. It takes parents, siblings, extended family members, physicians, nurses, hospital staff, volunteers, medical technology, and more. Being part of that team to help children meant so much to me.
