Hello! I’m YiKen, and I’m the Director of Membership and Education for this year.

What Did I do this Summer?

I had the opportunity to go on a Break Away Alternative Break Citizenship school (ABCs) this summer. My ABCs was set in beautiful Salt Lake City, Utah. There, I learned more about the causes of homelessness and housing insecurity. I learned a ton through workshops, discussions, and service about how to strengthen and provide quality immersion trips. It was so cool to meet other student leaders from around the country who are passionate about service and social justice!

What’s Up for This Year?

We are gearing up for our Trip Leader Retreat in a couple of weeks. At the retreat, our Trip Leaders will find out what trip they’re leading, serve at the Springfield Community Gardens, and participate in a low ropes course. Yay, team building! I am excited to meet all of our Trip Leaders and to start our weekly meetings with them.

Our Exec Board has some awesome things in store for this year, and I am so excited to grow as a leader and to grow in my journey as an active citizen.
