Expanding My Boundaries.
At this same time last year, I wasn’t educated enough about homelessness. I believed that “It wasn’t my problem, it was theirs.” After my trip to Chicago, I started viewing this issue from a new perspective. They are a part of our community, and every community they live in; they are people who simply need our support and encouragement.
What I learned about Homelessness?
- A homeless person means anyone lacking a fixed address.
- Homeless people in Chicago are not monolithic; they have different needs, and they are a combination of everything.
- There are different causes for homelessness. Some people even choose to be homeless.
- 80,384 Chicagoans were homeless in 2016.
What am I excited for this Spring?
This Spring I will be leading the Chicago trip. I’m excited to hear more stories, to learn more about the different causes and serve the Chicago community one more time. I’m also excited to meet all of the participants, bond with them and build a great friendship with every participant.
