COM Week offers career advice, free lunch

COMWeek-FullWeekThe communication department will kick off its 2015 COM Week Feb. 23-27, with this year’s focus on “The COM Degree in Action.” Lunch will be provided at each daytime session, where students can interact with alumni who will provide insights on what jobs are available to those with communication degrees.

Feb. 23

Mixer at Springfield Brewing Company

Time: 5-7 p.m.
Location: Springfield Brewing Company, downtown Springfield
Details: Communication alumni, students, faculty and staff are invited for the opening mixer for COM Week. Free appetizers will be available.

Feb. 24

Exploring the Graduate Student Experience

Time: 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. (presentation begins at noon)
Location: Plaster Student Union, Robert W. Ballroom East
Admission: Free and open to the public
Speaker: Dr. Daniel Mansson, assistant professor of communication, Penn State Hazleton

Feb. 25

Alumni Stories of Professional Success

Time: 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. (presentation begins at noon)
Location: Plaster Student Union, Robert W. Ballroom West
Admission: Free and open to the public
Speakers: Alumni Jason Stouder, vice president of Progressive Bike Ramps, and Kris Inman, training and education manager for Springfield-Greene County 911 Emergency Communications

Feb. 26

Alumni Stories of Professional Success

Time: 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. (presentation begins at noon)
Location: Plaster Student Union, Robert W. Ballroom East
Admission: Free and open to the public
Speakers: Alumnae Lisa Cox, public affairs officer for Springfield Police Department, and Meaghan Younker, talent acquisition for Leggett & Platt

Feb. 27

Executive Leadership and Community Engagement

Time: 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. (presentation begins at noon)
Location: Plaster Student Union, Robert W. Ballroom East
Admission: Free and open to the public
Speakers: Alumni Darin Kent, bank president at Regent Bank’s Oklahoma City market, and Kara DeVita, director of community engagement for AT&T
