Brittany Wise, coordinator of psychology advisement at Missouri State University, received the 2018 Outstanding Advising Award from the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA).
Kathy Davis, director of the Academic Advisement Center, nominated Wise for the award in the primary role category. Only advisors who spend at least 50 percent of their time on directly advising students, and have at least three years of experience, are eligible for nomination.
“I was pleasantly surprised when I heard I got the award,” Wise said. “It is nice to know the amount of caring, hard work and diligence that occurs in the Psychology Advisement Center has become visible to others.”
Wise is passionate about her role as an academic advisor. This passion stems from her experience as an MSU transfer and first-generation student.
“I encountered numerous hurdles during my academic journey,” Wise said. “I was fortunate to have a mentor who showed me possibilities I had not considered. I want to pay it forward.”
As a recipient, Wise will attend the NACADA awards ceremony in Phoenix, Arizona in fall of 2018.
