After nearly 20 years, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is officially back on campus at Missouri State University.
During Homecoming 2025, a group of students, alumni and community members gathered to welcome 13 new members of Alpha Kappa Alpha, including 12 Missouri State students and one student from Cox College. The new member presentation, held at 5:08 p.m. in honor of the sorority’s founding in 1908, introduced the charter members and marked the return of the first historically Black sorority to campus.
That Homecoming celebration capped a milestone weekend.
On Nov. 2, under the theme “A Legacy Begins: Cultivating Excellence through Sisterhood,” the Mid-Western Region of Alpha Kappa Alpha, with the support of the Omega Nu Omega Chapter, chartered the Upsilon Upsilon Chapter on Missouri State’s campus. The chartering luncheon brought together regional and local sorority leaders alongside alumnae who once belonged to the Pi Eta Chapter at then–Southwest Missouri State University.
The celebration also included the Non-Greek Stroll Off, where student organizations and residence hall teams joined National Pan-Hellenic Council chapters to step, stroll and show their school spirit.
