ELI English for Academic Purposes students in levels two and three visited Rountree Elementary September 12, 2017. Their mission was to share culture through hands-on games and activities. They met approximately 80 children in Kindergarten through second grades.
Learning through play
ELI students showed Rountree students popular children’s games from their home countries and introduced culture through hands-on activities. Kids practiced using chopsticks to pick up balls of paper, made simple origami art, and played interactive games to learn about culture.
A symbiotic learning experience
While Rountree students learned about new and exciting cultures, ELI students practiced key English skills of speaking and listening. Rountree kiddos were able to meet people from all over the world, and ELI students learned more about the U.S. education system and how American elementary classrooms operate.
