After an anxious summer of waiting, the Global Leaders and Mentors (GLaM) finally experienced the moment they’d been waiting for. The first new international student arrived at the airport. GLaM was there to greet them.
Members have been excited to get started since April, when they learned they had passed through the interview process and would be accepted into GLaM. Friendships developed between members during two one-day training sessions in the spring. Over the summer, they began to contact incoming international students to provide a warm welcome. They went through an intensive living and learning training July 30 – August 3 to learn about intercultural communication, leadership, and understanding Missouri State resources. Finally, on August 3, the big moment.
GLaM members will continue to provide a warm welcome to international students throughout the year. In addition to mentoring individual international students, they’ll also develop programs and events throughout the semester for all students.
