The English Language Institute (ELI) hosted an enthusiastic group of 23 students from the University of Andres Bello (UNAB) in Chile for an intense customized Hybrid English and Global Leadership Immersion Program (HELIP). This was one of the academic activities under Missouri State University’s collaboration with UNAB to create a vibrant platform for students to participate in educational exchanges. The HELIP program goes beyond language development, it encourages critical leadership abilities through group projects, workshops, and cross-cultural interactions. With more than 100 hours of interactive learning in just three weeks, participants earn comprehensive scores based on the CEFR dimensions, showing marked improvement in language skills and leadership skills.

They also got involved in activities like kayaking Springfield Lake, a Tennis game at Phelps Grove Park, Hiking around the Nature Center, Bowling at Andy B’s, Arcade, and laser tag.

Among other field trips, was an internship class where students were required to come up with a presentation related to global goals. The students visited Jordan Creek Underground Tunnels, Wastewater Treatment plant (SW), Emergency Management, and Springfield Conservation Nature Center.

The ELI offers customized programs depending on the learner’s needs. For anyone interested in such English language programs please contact paulamoore@missouristate.edu for any inquiries.
