Experience the Essence of Japanese Culture at Isesaki Global Leadership Academy’s Japan Night Festival

After a pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Isesaki Global Leadership Academy (IGLA) is back, and it’s more wonderful and better than ever! This annual event, hosted by Missouri State University’s English Language Institute (ELI), eagerly anticipates 116 high school students from Isesaki, Japan, our esteemed sister city from May 25 to June 3, 2024.

One of the highlights of the IGLA program is the Japan Night Festival, scheduled to take place from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Friday, May 31, 2024, at the Grand Ballroom, Plasters Student Union, MSU. This enchanting event promises to immerse visitors in the rich tapestry of Japanese culture through a myriad of captivating activities and performances.

Imagine yourself strolling through seventeen booths meticulously selected by our talented students, each offering a glimpse into various aspects of Japanese culture. But the excitement doesn’t stop there. Prepare to be enthralled at the main stage, where a series of captivating performances will unfold throughout the evening.

Main Stage Schedule:

19:00 – 19:05: Opening Ceremony: Kick off the festivities with a ceremonial flourish.

19:05 – 19:20: Short Japanese Drama: Experience the art of storytelling come to life.

19:20 – 19:25: Intermission: Take a breather and soak in the atmosphere.

19:25 – 19:40: Kendo Performance: Marvel at the precision and grace of Japanese martial arts.

19:40 – 19:45: Intermission: Refuel and recharge for the next act.

19:45 – 20:00: Tea Ceremony: Savor the tranquility of this ancient Japanese ritual.

20:00 – 20:05: Intermission: Reflect on the beauty of simplicity.

20:05 – 20:20: Japanese Calligraphy: Witness the elegance of brush strokes come to life.

20:20 – 20:25: Intermission: Prepare for the grand finale.

20:25 – 20:40: Karate Performance: Feel the energy and passion of this dynamic art form.

20:40 – 20:45: Intermission: Catch your breath before the final act.

20:45 – 21:00: Classical Japanese Dance: Be transported to another era as graceful movements unfold before your eyes.
