New week, new #LeaderBear. This week’s Leader Bear Spotlight has done a lot in two years at Missouri State and hopes to do more before graduating in May 2019. Her strengths are Significance, Competition, Achiever, Strategic, and Input. Get to know Kelsey Kraatz, a mathematics/statistics major who’s all about the Bears!
Currently, Kelsey is President of Traditions Council, Parade Co-Coordinator for the Homecoming Committee, and a GEP 101 Peer Leader. This summer she was a SOAR Leader and Ursa Major under New Student and Family Programs.
Although Kelsey hasn’t been through the three leadership programs we offer, she has still been impacted by opportunities through the OSE…
The OSE has provided me with amazing mentors, leadership opportunities, and growth within myself and my organization. The Leadership programs here have also helped me know what I need to do to be a better leader not only for my organization, but for myself to help others around me. Being a student leader has led me to great opportunities to interact with the University administration, staff, faculty and coaches ranging from Clif Smart to Coach Stec to our amazing grounds people that help us at Traditions Council events. Without these opportunities, I will not be able to interact with these amazing people and grow my leadership development.
Kelsey spent the summer helping new students and here’s some more advice she has…
Don’t be afraid to jump right in into leadership positions! Faculty, staff, and upperclassmen WANT to see you all grow and become leaders; that is why we are in the positions that we are in! If you see an opportunity that you think that’ll you will excel at, go for it! Leadership positions aren’t only for upperclassman, there for all students. Leadership development is something I think that all students need, so go for those opportunities; even though you might be nervous about them!
