Sustainability isn’t always about recycling! Residents from Bears for Sustainability traveled to the Watershed Committee of the Ozarks to pick wildflower seeds from the rain garden for later habitat restoration projects. Wildflower seeds are very expensive because getting them is labor-intensive, but as the Bears for Sustainability gathered seeds, they learned about why it was important to keep local plants in the area. We also traveled to a nearby field to where tall grass had gone to seed. Both grass roots and wildflower roots help to filter groundwater, adding another layer of protection against pollution. While in the field in grass over our heads we saw a grasshopper in the middle of molting and Danielle even caught one! If you’re ever in need of service hours, and you feel passionate about water and the impact we have on it, check out the Watershed Committee of the Ozarks, a good friend of Bears for Sustainability!
