Family and Consumer Sciences Educations students enrolled in FCS 301 made 34 pillowcase dresses to send on a mission trip to Nicaragua. The dresses were made from materials that were donated by First Baptist Church in Bolivar. Each student and the course instructor, Susa Rathbun, made three dresses. The mission trip is being sponsored by the church of FCS student Lindsay Smith. Each year FCS 301 selects a sewing service project. Past projects have included a donation of pillows and pillow cases to Polk County Social Services for children taken into foster care. Thirty fleece hats were made and donated to 5 small rural schools in the fall of 2013. As our student move into classrooms across the state, they are encouraged to incorporate community service as a part of their curriculum.
