Summary
Administrative assistant provides clerical support to the Superintendent and serves as communications director for Bolivar R-1 Schools.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
An individual who holds this position must:
Type correspondence, letters and memos, purchase orders, check requests, forms, etc. for Superintendent
Prepare routine correspondence
Answer phones, respond to routine questions, schedule appointments and route calls to appropriate staff
Maintain files
Keep schedules for Superintendent
Make travel arrangements for Superintendent
Supervises and coordinates the preparation of school district publications, ensuring quality.
Serves as liaison between the district and the news media; produces and distributes news releases including all print and audio/visual materials; and organizes news conferences.
Serves as a consultant in the preparation and production of informational and promotional materials prepared by school personnel.
Plans and designs communication strategies to inform the public about specific problems or situations.
Serves as a source of information about the schools to individuals and groups from the community.
Serves as the district’s Hall of Fame Program and Awards coordinator.
Facilitates customer services efforts, including training, with staff.
Oversees district Brand & Logo Licensing agreements and trademarks.
Attends all School Board and administrator meetings.
Assumes other responsibilities assigned by the Superintendent.

Qualifications
Education
BS in Communications or related field preferred
Experience in education setting preferred.

Language
An individual who holds this position must have the ability to:
Read and interpret documents such as instructions and procedure manuals
Write simple and complex reports and correspondence
Speak with members of the public and other staff members
Computation
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, and percentages

Interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form

Have strong computer skills including word processing, and working with spreadsheets and databases

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this position an employee is regularly required to sit, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk and use fingers and controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand, reach and bend and lift and carry up to ten pounds. Close vision ability to look at a computer screen for long periods of time is required.
