This month, the Department of Marketing spotlights Logan Bissey—a marketing student studying Marketing Management at Missouri State!
Logan is originally from Battlefield, MO, but was born in Kirksville, MO. Logan is on track to graduate in December 2024 with a degree in Marketing Management and a minor in International Business. Logan decided to apply for his internship with Chartwells [Missouri State University dinning services] because he sought to gain experience in the field and to help him reduce costs since the internship resided on Missouri State’s campus. Next summer Logan is planning to study abroad in New Zealand. This program will begin in July 2024, and run through the Fall semester. After graduation Logan is unsure what company he would like to work for but plans to pursue a career involving international travel and marketing for an environmental stability cause.
The Marketing Department is proud of Logan and his accomplishments so we decided to interview him to learn more about the position and pick up some advice that he might have for other students in the field of Marketing. Here is some things Logan had to say:
Q. What do you do in this position?
“I create advertising material, including social media, digital and physical signage, and long-term content to promote Chartwells dining and restaurants on campus, as well as collaborate with other interns on various projects.”
Q. What is your favorite part about your job?
“My favorite part of my job is the connections I have gained and my increase of confidence in my own ability to market with social media. Before getting this position, social media was an aspect of advertising that I often struggled with.”
Q. How has this job shaped you?
“My position has given me a better idea of what it is like to be in real-world marketing situations and more specifically ones involving food service. It has also helped me decide what I do and do not like about my career path.”
Q. How has your interactions been with the Marketing Department?
“My interactions with every professor and staff member I’ve met from the Marketing Department has been a pleasure. They all care about my success, and I feel great support from these people.”
As for Logan’s job he stated that, “My interactions with my manager [on campus] and fellow interns have been a fulfilling experience, as I have gained more knowledge than I imagined from an internship. They have been a great group to have real-world work experiences with.”
Q. Do you have any advice for younger Marketing students?
“From my experience with AMA and Ad Club, I advise that students start by joining student organizations on campus relating to their future aspirations. They can network with these groups and gain a larger bridge between their education and careers.”
Thank you so much for meeting with us, Logan! We look forward to keeping up with your endeavors and appreciate what you had to share about your experiences in the Department of Marketing! We all wish you luck!
