Dr. Chris Thompson, associate professor of voice and coordinator of vocal studies at Missouri State University, was cited in a recent review of Mohammed Fairouz’s 2012 album, “Native Informant.” Thompson sings a three-piece song cycle on the “exceptionally varied and complex album.”
The article published in the international touchstone for music reviews, “Fanfare,” highlights Thompson’s “unusual velvety timbre.” Thompson, singing the cycle written for baritenor, is praised for genuinely exhibiting “qualities of both baritone and tenor” while maintaining “superb” diction. The reviewer further details that “he makes one smile with his unusual way of bringing humor out when he sings” and concludes that “Native Informant” is “one of the most interesting, varied and engaging classical albums of the year.”
