Jerry Hoover, Missouri State University director of bands, was recently honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the London International Music Festival. Hoover was recognized for his contributions as, musical consultant and chief adjudicator of the panel of judges at the New Year’s event.
Hoover contributed to the growth of the annual event for 20 years. Every year, 600,000 people attend the event and in recent years the BBC began streaming the entire program on its website worldwide. Over 40 American bands, choirs and orchestras participated this year.
From this, London’s charities have been huge beneficiaries with collections and donations reaching £100,000 ($161,690) yearly.
Hoover was honored by the Lord Lieutenant of London, the Lord High Mayor of Westminster and the festival’s executive director. He was then presented in the parade riding in a custom roadster, the “Beauford Belle.” In the presentation, Hoover was thanked for his support and advice and for bringing American flair to the festival.
