The Jane A. Meyer Carillon Series returns this Sunday, June 9, at 7 p.m. with a concert by Missouri State Carillonist, Jeremy Chesman.
The series consists of monthly concerts from June to September at the carillon located on the grounds of the Duane G. Meyer Library. Featured carillonists include Karel Keldermans, one of the pre-eminent carillonneurs in North America, and celebrated artist Tin-Shi Tam. Following each performance, attendees have the opportunity to meet the artist and to ascend the tower for a tour of the carillon cabin.
The Jane A. Meyer Carillon was dedicated on April 13, 2002. Ken and Jane Meyer, longtime friends of the University and supporters of the arts, donated funds to purchase 48 bronze bells and for the construction of the 2.5 million-pound, 140-foot tall structure. Royal Eijsbouts, a prestigious bell foundry in The Netherlands, provided and installed the bells, cast-iron clappers, and keyboard. In addition to its use for the Carillon Series and other special concerts, the Jane A. Meyer Carillon plays the standard Westminster chime sequence every 15 minutes, with the first of the hourly bells marking the exact start of each hour.
