Congratulations to Dr. Amy Muchnick, Missouri State professor of music, who was recently named Assistant Conductor of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra for the 2012-2013 season.
Muchnick has been a part of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra since 1993, performing as the Principal Violist for the past ten years. As assistant conductor, Muchnick plans to use her experience in innovative children’s music programs to lead education and outreach programs, including the annual Young People’s Concerts for area fourth grade students. She will be conducting the Halloween Concert entitled “Spooky Symphony” and the Holiday pops concert in December.
Muchnick is very involved in music at Missouri State and in the community. She is a professor of Viola and the conductor of the MSU Chamber Orchestra. She also leads an annual Study Away Program for students each May. Outside of MSU, Muchnick is the Artistic Director and Conductor of the SRO Lyric Theatre. She began her studies at the Hartt School of Music. After joining the Memphis symphony, she concurrently earned her Master of Music Degree in viola performance from University of Memphis. Muchnick was awarded the prestigious Guarneri String Quartet fellowship to attend the University of Maryland where she earned her Doctoral of Musical Arts Degree.
