Congratulations to students who were recognized in the recent Missouri Music Teachers Association state competitions! The events took place Nov. 2-5 at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Missouri.
Areas of recognition
Chamber Music
A Missouri State ensemble consisting of Thomas Sanders (clarinet), Jessica Hunt (cello) and Yuet-Yang Siew (piano) placed runner-up at the Music Teachers National Association Young Artist Competitions. They entered with Brahms Clarinet Trio, Opus 114 and Muczynsky Fantasy, Opus 24.
Piano
In the piano area, several students received top honors.

- Shun-Yeen Hoi, alternate (2nd place) winner
Missouri Music Teachers Association auditions
- Piano Graduate Division: Yanran Zhu, 1st place
- Claire Kang, 2nd place
Piano Junior/Senior Division
- Dennis Kong, 1st place
Piano Freshman/Sophomore Division
- Eunhyang Koh, 2nd place
Strings
- Karolina Fraczak won the MMTA state collegiate strings upper division with Brady Eaton, honorable mention
- Jacob Luellen was MMTA state strings runner up, lower division
Flute/Woodwinds
- Mari Kamikura was awarded runner-up in the upper division of undergrad woodwinds
- Flute Quartet was the winner in the woodwind chamber division
- Paola Cubillos was the winner of the graduate woodwinds
Trombone
- Brayden King received an Honorable Mention in the MMTA Collegiate Brass Upper Division competition
- Gabriel Duerkop received an Honorable Mention in the Collegiate Brass Graduate competition
