2013 Year in Review

December 20, 2013 by Kami Gollhofer

With the New Year around the corner, now is a great time to boast of accomplishments attained during the 2013 calendar year in the Department of Nursing. Our student achievements are what we are most proud of- in total we had 90 graduates from all programs this year. To break them out individually it looks like this:

Spring 2013

Generic BSN- 50 graduates (out of a 50 seat program for this specific year)

                BSN Completion- 3 graduates

MSN-Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)- 14 graduates

         FNP-Post Masters- 1 graduate

Fall 2013

                BSN Completion- 17 graduates

                MSN-FNP- 1 graduate

                MSN-Nurse Educator (NE)- 1 graduate

                NE-Post Masters- 2 graduates

We are proud of all graduates and wish them well in their future careers. We would love to see photos from your day! To share memories (of all past and present graduates) go to #BearGrads.

Also in 2013, our NCLEX-RN exam pass rate for 2013 on first attempt was 90%. That is well above the local, state and national averages and attests to the quality curriculum and knowledge base of nursing faculty. Speaking of BSN students, the Department of Nursing provides scholarships for students to receive financial assistance to support their studies at MSU. This year, 29 BSN students received department scholarships at the annual donor reception. To those students, these scholarships will help them achieve dreams and goals to make them better individuals in their community and medical field.

Our department as a whole has had several accomplishments as well. To date, we have received the following grants to allow numerous opportunities afforded to current and future students:

The Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN) granted $50,000

$152,746 was received from the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS)- Health Resources and Services Administration for the advanced education nursing traineeship program

                Final Total-$202,746

2014 brings many opportunities in our department. We look forward to working with current and future students and seeing what opportunities will be available in the coming year. Stay tuned to our blog for updates and notices of achievements! We look forward to serving you in 2014!
