
Dr. Julie Baldwin is an assistant professor in the Missouri State Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice. She was recently awarded the Certified Distance Educator Award for her determination in creating a quality distance learning experience for her students.
In 2013, she received her Ph.D in Criminology, Law and Society from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. Baldwin teaches Criminal Law and the Courts online and Current Issues in Policing online for undergraduate students and Legal Issues in Criminal Justice online for the master’s program.

Patti A. Blanton is a senior instructor in the Missouri State Department of Mathematics. She also serves as Co-Chair on the Distance Education Committee.
Patti has been awarded the Certified Distance Educator award for successfully completing the highest level of Black Belt on Blackboard and her outstanding work as a online course instructor.

Kimberly Van Ornum is an instructor in the Missouri State Department of Mathematics. To be eligible for this award, Kimberly had to complete three professional development activities related to distance education.
Kimberly met this requirement by completing the Webinar on Learning Catalytics, Faculty Grade Entry training sessions and participating in Publisher training sessions for MyMathLabs.
As the recipient of the Distance Educator Award, Kimberly demonstrates her commitment to pursuing expertise in innovative instructional methodology and to providing the highest quality of distance learning education to her students.

Dr. Rose A. Utley is a Professor of Nursing at Missouri State University and a former member of the Distance Education Committee. Among several faculty development events, Rose has completed her Blackboard Learn Black Belt Bootcamp! For her outstanding efforts she has been awarded the Distance Educator Award.

Dr. David E. Johnson is an associate professor of Political Science at Missouri State University. He earned his Ph.D in 2005 at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public and International Affairs and his research and professional interests include use of information technology in decision making, computer simulation and modeling for disaster response.
Because of his completion of the Blackboard Collaborate training as well as development sessions in managing content and assessing learner outcomes in Blackboard, he is receiving the Certified Distance Educator Award.

Jokima Hiller, instructor for the Department of Hospitality and Restaurant Administration, was honored by her department for her hard work and success in the field of distance education. Jokima received the Certified Distance Educator Award in recognition of her commitment to developing new skills in the technology and pedagogy of online and distance teaching and learning.
Jokima has her MBA from the Keller Graduate School of Management and her BS from Purdue University in Restaurant, Hotel, Institutional and Tourism Management.
Attending the presentation of the award was Department Head, Dr. Stephanie Hines, Dean Jahnke of CNAS and Mr. Wes Pratt, Assistant to the President & Chief Diversity Officer, and faculty from the department.

Dr. Monkia Feeney, Program Director Nurse Anesthesia, received her Certified Distance Educator Award for accomplishing the Blackboard Black Belt. Dr. Feeney received her DNAP in 2011 from Virginia Commonwealth University. As a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, she has already received the Outstanding Nurse Educator Award. Her research interests focus on post-operative blindness.

Professor Marilyn B. Odneal from the Mountain Grove Campus Horticulture Program was presented her Certified Distance Educator Award. She successfully completed the Soft Chalk training as well as becoming a Blackboard Black Belt. Professor Odneal earned her Master of Science in Horticulture from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Ivy Yarckow-Brown, Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice, received the Certified Distance Educator Award in recognition of her activities in online and distance educator development and practice. In addition to her Certified Distance Educator Award, Professor Yarckow-Brown won the Master Online Course Recognition Award last year. She recently become a Certified Blackboard Black Belt.

Dr. John Bourhis, Professor of Communication, became a Certified Distance Educator in recognition of his many activities in the development and practice of distance teaching and learning. Professor Bourhis earned his Doctorate in Education from the University of Minnesota. Since then he has received a number of awards and recognitions including his current status as a Blackboard Black Belt.
