I currently work for Governor Mike Parson as his Kansas City Representative. My office is located in the Power and Light District in Kansas City. My job allows me to manage the Governor’s initiatives and affairs in Kansas City. Along with managing the Kansas City Governor’s Office itself, I also take care of the Governor’s operations in Western Missouri. This means scheduling his meetings here and advancing them as well. This position has taught me so much about Missouri politics and the internal mechanisms that come with it.
The Political Science program at Missouri State University created a basis of understanding for most of my conversations in this profession. When those who have been in the field longer ask me an inquiry about the Governor or a constituent asks me about the status of a particular piece of legislation, I am able to already apply the correct terminology and knowledge in order to do the best I can with community outreach. The preparation that the Political Science program gives you, allows for the ever-changing world of politics to grow upwards from that. But I couldn’t do it without the program. I am also earning my Masters of Public Administration online currently which pairs very nicely with a Bachelor’s in Political Science.
I have been inspired to join the field of politics and government, let alone major in Political Science, when I found that I was no longer passionate about pre-med. I had to do some soul searching and really look into my passions. I have always been a strong conservative and I wanted to have a profession where I could fight for my beliefs. No degree would allow me to do that except for Political Science.
