After completing a contract job with Jack Henry, 2017 MPA alumni Justin Vann began working for O’Reilly Auto Parts at their main office as a Business Systems Analyst (BSA).
“As BSA with O’Reilly I look at business needs, problems and potential improvements, and research the way things are being done and how they can be done given current functionality, as well as what functionality can change. I then take my research and apply it to solution design where I craft a document that is like a set of instructions describing what the O’Reilly software developers and architects need to do to execute the improvement or fix.
I wear a lot of different hats ranging from researcher and technical writer, to user experience designer and project manager. It can be very challenging, especially since I am kind of the guy in the middle of all of the stake holders and the link to the developers, but it is rewarding and uses a strong mix of technical and personal skills. It boils down though to research, writing, and playing well with others.”
