MPA students participated in a recent tornado exercise hosted by the Springfield-Greene County Office of Emergency Management. With participants from 40 governmental and non-profit organizations, the purpose of the exercise was to improve readiness and response for severe weather events.
Imagine preparing for this scenario: A tornado strikes southwest Greene county and cuts a path toward the northwest striking Cox South and then the Battlefield Mall causing it to collapse and catch fire. The twister continued across Glenstone before derailing a train in the eastern part of the county.
Devyn Wade was an evaluator, Karlie Reinkemeyerin was in the admin/logistics section, and Kirsten Krier worked the Simcel, which handles phone calls, radio messages, and FAXes.
