Garrett Woodrum – The “Value” of Law School

January 3, 2021 by George Connor

2019 Political Science alumni, Garrett Woodrum, offers some advice to pre-law students.

I would say go to the school that values you the most for the following reasons:

1. You will not accumulate as much debt as you would trying to make it somewhere else.

2. Your end goal is to graduate and either pass the bar or use your degree doing something else, and a school that values you the most will more than likely be able to provide the resources for you to succeed.

I chose Southern Illinois University because it was the most affordable. At the end of the day, my number one goal was to find a school that is ABA accredited but would not put me into a bad financial situation upon graduation.

Lastly, I think everyone should tour their schools and ask questions about scholarships, student organizations, what classes to take/what those professors are like. Due to COVID, touring the school and attending a class will be different but I know SIU has utilized email and zoom to help make the experience a little better.
