Clif's Notes

In preparation for creating the 2016-21 long range plan, a vision report was created to help identify how Missouri State can best prepare to meet the challenges facing higher education in the next 10 years.

18064-4621-AerialVision report is available online

As you know, over the past year we have worked on a visioning project titled Missouri State Vision: Our Passion for Excellence. We created a steering committee for the project and six task forces. The task forces met throughout the year, and we conducted several University-wide presentations and a visioning conference. Since the end of the spring semester, we have been drafting the capstone report for the visioning project. I am pleased to announce that we have finalized this report. I would encourage each of you to read the visioning report.

Work of the long range plan steering committee begins this fall

Our work is not done. We must now implement the appropriate action plans to achieve our vision. That part of the process begins this year as we develop the University’s 2016-21 long range plan and reevaluate the University’s mission statement.

We have formed an advisory group for these strategic planning initiatives. That group consists of me, Dr. Frank Einhellig and Dr. Dee Siscoe. This group will not be involved in the actual development of the long range plan. Rather, this group will advise a broader steering committee and will provide input upon request from the steering committee. We have not yet formed the full steering committee, but I have asked Dr. Gloria Galanes to chair the steering committee. I have the utmost confidence that she will do a fantastic job.

The steering committee will be ultimately responsible for developing the 2016-21 long range plan. Additionally, I have asked the steering committee to evaluate the University’s existing mission statement and recommend any changes to it that they determine appropriate. I do not intend to dictate the manner of the steering committee’s work. However, I have asked Dr. Galanes to collaborate broadly and engage liberally with the university community and community stakeholders outside the University as the steering committee does its work in the coming year.

I hope you are as excited as I am about the vision set forth in the Missouri State Vision: Our Passion for Excellence report. Please join me as we do all we can to achieve excellence at the University.

Thanks for all you do for Missouri State!
