Clif's Notes

In last week’s note, I encouraged you to read the visioning report, and I told you that we were in the beginning stages of developing our next long-range plan which will operationalize the Missouri State vision.

Long-range Plan Steering Committee named

We have formed an executive leadership team consisting of Dr. Frank Einhellig, Dr. Dee Siscoe and me that will be responsible for overseeing the process and presenting the plan to the Board of Governors.

I am happy to report that the executive leadership team had its first meeting and formed a steering committee to guide the long-range planning process. The members of the steering committee are:

  • Gloria Galanes (Chair)
  • Jim Baker
  • Stephanie Bryant
  • Paul Durham
  • Kathryn Hope
  • Thomas Lane
  • Julie Masterson
  • Matt Morris
  • Tom Peters
  • Melissa Remley
  • Sharmistha Self
  • Michele Smith

The executive leadership team has charged the steering committee to evaluate opportunities to improve the University’s mission statement, develop a University vision statement and identify appropriate University value statements. Once these tasks are completed, the committee will develop a 2016-21 long-range plan for Missouri State. The committee will solicit feedback and collaborate widely with the campus community and the external community.

Long-range plan will follow structure of vision report

The executive leadership team has instructed the committee to rely heavily on the vision set forth in the visioning report, and to frame the long-range plan utilizing the six topical headings identified in the visioning report:

  • Academic Profile
  • Student Experience
  • Diversity
  • Globalization
  • Infrastructure
  • Funding

I will hold an initial meeting with the members of the steering committee this week. Throughout the coming year, the steering committee will reach out to hundreds of University stakeholders as they develop the plan. Please participate in this process as the opportunity arises.

Our goal is to complete the mission, vision and value statements by November, and to prepare a first draft of the long-range plan by February.

Thanks for all you do for Missouri State!
