Award for Excellence in Study Away Programming
The Study Away Advisory Committee seeks to recognize MSU faculty who demonstrate excellence in developing and leading short-term study away programs, defined as credit-offering programs of eight weeks or less. The deadline for submitting a nomination for the Award for Excellence in Study Away Programming is Friday, December 7. The Award for Excellence in Study Away Programming will be presented at the All Faculty Recognition Reception on May 6, 2013. The award includes $1,500 in professional development funds. Director of Bookstore Candidates—Open Forums
Raymond “Todd” Smith

The Vice President for Student Affairs would like to announce the third of our four candidates for the Director of the Bookstore. Raymond “Todd” Smith , will be visiting Missouri State University on October 29, 2012.
Mr. Smith is currently employed at Clayton State University Bookstore in Morrow, Georgia, as the Director of Campus Store Services. He received his Bachelor of Science & Information Technology degree in 2011 from Macon State College, and has been working within college/university bookstores for more than 10 years.
If you are interested in learning more about Mr. Smith, please plan to attend an open forum to engage in his presentation, questions are encouraged. The Open Forum for faculty and staff will be from 1:00-1:45 p.m. in PSU 315. The Open Forum for students is scheduled from 3:30-4:15 p.m. in PSU 315.

Laura Warren

Ms. Warren is currently employed at Oklahoma City University as the Store Director. She received her Bachelor of Arts in English in 1992 from Michigan State University, and has been working within college/university bookstores for more than 3 years.

Grant Writing

This course will allow seasoned grant writers and newcomers the chance to understand and practice the essentials of writing grant proposals in an interactive and creative workshop! Topics such as writing, research, and learning how to locate funding sources, grant writing tips, and tutorials that have taken years of our expertise to cultivate, will be covered. Let our insight into the vast resources, grant search, and grant writing strategies benefit your organization. In addition, you will learn how to pursue grant funds. This is a course not to be missed. Course fee is $150

Nominations Now Being Accepted for the Staff Excellence in University Service Awards
Deadline for nominations is Friday, November 16
The Staff Excellence in University Service Awards (SEUSA) recognize excellence in service to the University among staff employees.
The University wishes to recognize those staff employees who strive to do their jobs well on a daily basis, those who go above and beyond the call of duty in a special situation, and those who have contributed in a significant way to the success of the University. The general intent of the awards is to serve all staff classifications, but the Review Committee will be looking at exceptional service to the University.
Six full-time employees will receive a one-time $1,500 award. Do you know a staff employee who has proven superior service to the University? Currently enrolled students, employed staff, faculty, administrators, or groups are encouraged to nominate full-time staff employees for the Excellence in University Service Awards.

The purpose of the Shifting Focus: The Habits of the Successful College Students presentation is to introduce students to the theories created by Stephen Covey. This presentation distills Covey’s seven habits for effective business practices into a model students can use to navigate their college experience. Intended for students in their first or second year, this presentation also includes planning and motivational information.
