MSU’s subscription to Campus Pack will end on August 2. The features offered by Campus Pack (e.g., wikis, blogs, journals) are offered through Blackboard Learn. If you would like to learn more about incorporating blogs, wikis or podcasts into your teaching, contact the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning.

Need your photo updated or a new one taken? Photographic Services will be taking portrait pictures of faculty, staff, and administrators free of charge! These photos are perfect for your department’s website and print projects. Professional or business casual attire is preferred. The theme for this year’s conference is “Facilitating Student Engagement and Deep Learning.”
Plan to join peers and colleagues for an inspiring morning of speakers, panels and practical sessions which showcase the work of faculty and solutions they have found for facilitating student engagement and deep learning. The event will feature:
- A continental breakfast and table-top displays of resources and academic services at MSU
- Over 20 break-out sessions presented by faculty and staff
- Luncheon featuring keynote speaker Dr. Deborah Allen, Associate Professor of Biological Sciences at the University of Delaware
Dr. Allen is one of the founding institute leaders from the University of Delaware’s Institute for Transforming Undergraduate Education. For more than ten years, the University of Delaware has encouraged the adoption of student-centered and active classroom pedagogies, particularly in the area of problem-based learning in undergraduate studies. Dr. Allen will talk about the use of problem-based learning to achieve deeper learning and the pedagogies of student engagement.
Join your peers and colleagues for an engaging discussion on this topic. Breakfast and lunch are free but registration is requested to ensure we don’t run out of food!

2014 Summer Academic Writing Retreat—Spots Available!
Dates: Monday–Friday, June 16–20
Time: 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
Location: Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning, Meyer Library, Room 204
This interdisciplinary academic writing retreat is designed to:
- Create a motivated and positive environment that fosters excellent work
- Encourage productivity through peer accountability and immediate feedback
- Develop positive writing habits
The retreat includes five days of committed writing time, mini-sessions on removing productivity challenges and fostering good writing habits, as well as feedback on writing style, grammar, and more. The retreat is open to anyone working on a scholarly writing project. The goal is for each participant to arrive with a work in progress and leave with a completed manuscript.
Cost and Registration
The cost is $150 for Missouri State University employees and registration is non-credit fee waiver benefit eligible for Missouri State University employees. The cost is $300 for non-Missouri State University employees.

Provost Frank Einhellig and the Office of the Provost invite faculty to attend a Welcome Back lunch on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. in the Plaster Student Union Ballroom.
“Fitting” in at Work
Dr. Wes Scroggins, associate professor of management at Missouri State University, has been researching different ways for employers to approach both hiring new employees and managing overall employee performance. Learn more about his research on the Mind’s Eye website.
The purpose of Mind’s Eye is to highlight research and scholarly activities at Missouri State University. This research project, along with many other research projects, can be found on the Mind’s Eye website.
Study Away Proposal Deadlines
The priority deadline for submitting a proposal for a short-term faculty-led program for summer 2015 is July 15, 2014. Proposals submitted by July 15 will guarantee table space for the program director at the September 10, 2014 Study Away Fair.
The final deadline for submitting a proposal for a short-term faculty-led program for summer 2015 is September 28, 2014. Please see the proposal template here for international programs.
