Information Meeting for Scholar 2 Scholar Faculty Mentoring Opportunity
Please join us for information on the Missouri State University Scholar 2 Scholar (S2S) program sponsored by the Division of Diversity and Inclusion (DDI). This program was established to encourage engagement in research and to match undergraduate students to faculty mentors while assisting with faculty research and other creative projects. S2S is a campus-wide research initiative which supports students with work-study awards and interest in working with faculty from all disciplines as a research assistant.
Join us to find out more and sign up for the Scholar 2 Scholar program. You too can find a student research assistant for your special projects and provide mentoring that increases student retention in your program.

How Can I Connect Students’ Interests to Course Content?
A new program begins Monday, November 9
When students see a clear link between their concerns and your course content, teaching and learning improve. The trick is establishing those connections. Alice Cassidy, Ph.D., shows you how to get students to make a personal investment in their learning—no matter how large or small your class may be.
To access the Monday Morning Mentor programs, email the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning or call 836-3059.
Book Talk: The Other Side of the Wes Moore Story
Please email the FCTL or call 836-3059 to make arrangements to pick up a book and some reflection material.
Discussion Sessions:
Thursday, November 5—3:30–4:30 p.m.
Please join us to discuss this year’s common reader, The Other Wes Moore: One Name Two Fates. This book talk will look at the “other” Wes Moore within the context of American racial, social, political and economic constructs and realities. Issues will be raised regarding the impact of institutionalized “isms” and how does cultural resistance seek to redefine the “other.”
This event is co-sponsored by the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning and Diversity and Inclusion.
How Can I Connect the Common Reader With My Class?
Join Nora Cox from the Communication Department in a discussion on how to use the themes from the common reader, The Other Wes Moore, in your own classroom. Discussions will include how the common reader can introduce first-year students to the Public Affairs Mission and how we can help students see the connections between what they are learning in their classes and the themes in this book.
Sessions available:
Tuesday, November 3, 3:30–4:15 p.m., Hill Hall 001
Wednesday, November 4, 3:45–4:30 p.m., Temple Hall 001
