The FCTL Advisory Council is soliciting proposals for the creation or improvement of high-impact learning practices. Two-types of funding are available:
- Grants to develop high-impact practices and student learning
- Faculty stipends for integrating diversity into teaching and learning

MSU Faculty Write Program Retreats–Fall 2016

The Faculty Write Program focuses on promoting faculty productivity and camaraderie through writing-based experiences such as interdisciplinary writing retreats held twice a month, workshops, and 15-day writing challenges. Writing retreats include breakfast and a light lunch, opportunities to develop a strong network of peer support and accountability, and voluntary feedback sessions. Sessions are facilitated by Dr. Mandy Benedict-Chambers and held in the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning, Meyer Library Room 204, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Book Talk – Enrique’s Journey
Enrique’s Journey by Sonia Nazario is Missouri State University’s 2016–2017 common reader. This is a must read book, whether you use it in your course or to broaden your horizons. Professional Development Workshop
Embedding Inclusion and Diversity Into Your Syllabus
Dates: Monday, October 17 and Tuesday, October 18
Time: Both sessions run from 3:30–5:00 p.m.
Location: FCTL, Meyer Library Room 204
Faculty interested in embedding inclusion and diversity into your syllabus for the spring are invited to attend a preparation session at the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning. Two sessions will be offered to better accommodate teaching schedules. Interested faculty should email their spring syllabus to the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning by Wednesday, October 12. This will assist in setting the direction for the preparation sessions and providing you with feedback on how to embed inclusion and diversity pedagogy into your classes. Sessions will be facilitated by Dr. Gilbert Brown, Associate Provost for Diversity, and FCTL instructional designers. This is a timely topic appropriate for new and experienced faculty members.
Inclusive Instruction for Diversity Mini-Workshops
Want to reach all your students? Want to be culturally inclusive, but not certain how? Come try out a few strategies with us. Each mini-workshop will target different inclusion goals and strategies. Practice with us at all or any of the mini-workshops. Sponsored by the Division for Diversity and Inclusion and the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning. 35 participant maximum per session. Sign up for one or for all.

All four mini-workshops will be held at Strong Hall 0200 at 3:30–5:00 pm. The remaining dates are:

Crossing Borders Films – “American Textures”
Date: Thursday, October 27
Time: 3:00–5:00 p.m.
Location: Cheek Hall 102
Crossing Borders Films is creating powerful intercultural discussions on college campuses across the United States. Film director Arnd Wächter will be at Missouri State University Oct 27th to screen the film. This screening will be followed by an open discussion with Mr. Wächter. This event is open to all members of the campus community. Faculty interested in facilitating multicultural and diversity discussions in their classrooms are encouraged to meet Mr. Wächter and learn more about his work.
