“Love is essential, gregariousness is optional.” ― Susan Cain, Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking
When it comes to academic advising, it can be challenging to navigate the differences between introverts and extroverts. How do we include introverts in a lively discussion? How can extroverts and introverts solve problems together? During an advising appointment, how can we accomplish all the tasks at hand with a talkative, extroverted student? Understanding Jungian personality types can help advisors assist students better and create a more cohesive work environment.
In this advisor forum, we will deconstruct the stereotypes surrounding Jung’s theory on introverts and extroverts, and discuss ways to be more effective and sensitive advisors and instructors. Through case studies, group discussion, and personal assessment, attendees will leave with a greater understanding of these personality types and concrete ways to accommodate students and recognize their environment preferences.
Feel free to bring your lunch to this session.
