Missouri State’s Study Away Program has been recognized for meeting the Education Abroad field’s Standards of Good Practice.
Missouri State applied to participate in the Quality Improvement Program (QUIP) with The Forum on Education Abroad in 2017. QUIP is the only objective, independent review system in education abroad based on the Standards of Good Practice for Education Abroad developed by the field. Study Away chose to participate in this rigorous and objective external review process to improve the quality of Missouri State’s Study Away programming and to benefit future Study Away students.
The QUIP process included:
- Extensive self-study report
- Peer Review Team site visit to MSU, including interviews and focus groups with faculty, students, administrators and staff
- Review of the Peer Review Team report
- MSU’s response to the Peer Review Team report
- The Forum Review Panel’s assessment of the Self-Study and Peer Review Report
- Final Determination, received on January 14, 2019
The Forum Review Panel (FRP) reviewed all documentation and have judged the review process to have been rigorous and valid. I’ll quote one FRP representative:
I am in complete agreement with the Peer Reviewers’ thorough and thoughtful assessment that Missouri State University demonstrates substantial conformity with the Standards of Good Practice for Education Abroad. MSU has developed a very strong program for bringing the benefits of education abroad to students beyond those who have historically pursued it. In doing this, MSU has shown significant knowledge of new developments in education abroad, an ability to apply these to MSU, and a commitment to continuous programmatic assessment, growth, and improvement.
In order to maintain this recognition, Study Away Programs will need to submit a QUIP Interim Report by January 14, 2023.
Many thanks goes to the partnership of faculty and staff across campus who work alongside Study Away to highlighting the importance of a global perspective in the MSU community.
