Discussions on Important Advising Situations
Date: Monday, September 30
Time: 12:15 to 1:15 p.m.
Location: Plaster Student Union 308
Facilitators: Kathy Davis, Mandi Muse, Juli Panza, Karmen Ketchum-Brewer, Brittany Wise and Scott Handley.
At this Academic Advisor Forum, you will choose a table to discuss important advising situations such as advising probationary students, writing sensitive advising notes, managing a large advising load, helping students find motivation and set academic goals, encouraging students to “Finish in Four” or advising high-achieving students. Participants will discuss one situation for about ten minutes and then switch to a different table.
Registration is appreciated but not required.
Advising Students with Transfer Credit
Date: Friday, October 4
Time: 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
Location: Pummill 202
Presenters: Ross Hawkins and Mandi Muse
This workshop is for any advisor who works with transfer students or students who have or will be completing credit elsewhere. Advisors will learn more about CORE 42 and the impact it has on advising transfer students. Web resources will be viewed and discussed to help advisors be efficient in advising appointments and to share information with students about the resources available online. Participants will also be made aware of recent changes in the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid regarding transfer processes and scholarships.

Infusing “Career Readiness” in Advising
Date: Monday, October 7
Time: 1:30 p.m.– 4:00 p.m.

Career Readiness is developed through many activities and experiences, including advising. This workshop will dive into what advisors can do to help students prepare for their next step after college. Participants will hear from an employer panel, fellow advisors, and campus resources.
