The Presentation Center’s mission is to enhance communication skills and offer helpful advice for students enrolled in COM 115. We provide one-on-one consultations and small group workshops with peer consultants and communication professionals. For more information, visit our website.
Our Services
At the Presentation Center, you will spend an hour working with one of our trained consultants to tailor your message and delivery while boosting your confidence. Peer consultants can assist you with the following:
- Topic selection and brainstorming
- Content development
- Organizing ideas
- Outlines and note card preparation
- Evaluation of visual aids
- Presentation effectiveness and delivery (verbal and nonverbal)
- General oral communication skills
- Managing speaking anxiety & developing confidence
- Citing research orally
- Audience analysis
Dates of Service for Fall 2020
August 24 – December 3, 2020. Visit the Public Speaking Support page for information or call us at (417) 836-6398. You can also talk to a receptionist in our Zoom Room from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Monday – Thursday. Log into My.Missouri.State, navigate to the Campus Life tab, locate the Bear CLAW block, and click on the ZOOM Bear CLAW space.
Option 1: Scheduling a Synchronous Consultation Session
Online consultations for COM 115 are available for the Fall Semester. You must use the Online scheduling system for online tutoring for the 2020 Fall Semester. Appointments must be made at least 24 hours in advance.
Option 2: Submit a Video for an Asynchronous Consultation Session
Speakers can obtain advice regarding their speech through an email consultation. A speech may be at any stage of the development process. A consultant will watch the speech and give you an overview of the text’s strengths and weaknesses. These comments will be returned to you as soon as possible. Download your speech to YouTube, TikTok, FB, Google… any platform that is easily accessed and won’t require that our consultants “like” your page
