Request summer 2022 graduate teaching assistant funding
The request form is due by Monday, February 28
The Graduate College sent the form to be used to request funding from the Graduate College for summer graduate teaching assistants to each Dean and Department Head on January 18, 2022. The form must be used when making a request for this funding, and must be signed by the Department Head and Dean. You must describe:
- The duties (i.e., grading, lab-set up, lecture) that each GTA will perform and the number of weekly hours each duty will require;
- List the courses that each GTA will support and indicate last summer’s enrollment or this summer’s projected enrollment;
- Indicate how many student credit hours will be directly generated by the GTA; and
- Provide the name of the supervising faculty member(s) for each GTA.
This source of funding is only to support teaching. The 2022 Summer Graduate Teaching Assistant Request Form will be due into the Graduate College no later than February 28, 2022. Awards will be made by the first part of March 2022.
Request for proposals – Faculty research grants
Spring deadline is Tuesday, February 1
These grants are one-year (max $7500) of funding. The grants are to support new research, creative or scholarly activities or for high quality projects not likely to receive external funding. To be eligible, a person must:
- Be a ranked faculty member.
- Have submitted the final report for his/her previous FRG to the Graduate College prior to last February 1st.
- Not received a summer fellowship for 2022 from the Graduate College, and
- Remain with the University for a year after the project is completed.

Please note: The new application procedure is through Dynamic Forms with the link provided on the FRG webpage under the heading “Application and Format.” The applicant is responsible to track their application through the system and ensure that their Department Head and Dean have signed and submitted prior to the deadline. International travel grants
The deadlines for International Travel applications for Spring and Summer are April 15th and July 15th.
The funding is to support faculty international travel that will “advance the university mission, in a manner related to the research of the faculty member.” This funding is provided to support faculty presentation of research. The International Travel award provides up to $2,500 to the recipient. This is a one-to-one match with funding secured by the applicant (from department/college/external grant/conference or event organization). A Foreign Travel Authorization form must be completed and approved PRIOR to traveling, and the Dean and Department Head will take into account any COVID conditions or other travel restrictions in the country the faculty member proposes to visit. Applications for spring 2022 thesis/non-thesis funding
Faculty, please remind your graduate students that the deadline for spring 2022 thesis and non-thesis funding is Tuesday, February 1, 2022.
The intent of thesis and non-thesis funding is to support student research and provide financial assistance toward the costs incurred in their thesis or non-thesis projects. The thesis award averages approximately $500 for each thesis project. The non-thesis award averages approximately $250 for each project. All applications must include information requested on the application form. Incomplete and late applications will not be processed. All applications must be submitted electronically to the Graduate College.
Graduate student travel funding available
Missouri State University offers a number of special funding opportunities for graduate students including thesis research, non-thesis research, and student travel funding. Graduate student travel funding is available for the graduate student to present their thesis/non-thesis research at a designated conference. Applications should be submitted 30 days prior to the travel date to the Graduate College.

Important information for graduate assistants
- Spring 2022 joint Graduate Student, TA, GA, & RA Orientations is scheduled for Thursday, January 13, 2022, in the PSU Parliamentary Room (PSU 313).
- The deadline to submit a GA Bear PAF for new graduate assistants beginning the summer 2022 semester is April 29, 2022. Additional information can be found on the graduate college website. The same deadline applies if you are submitting a paper PAF.
- If the student is appointed as a T.A. for summer 2022 and has NOT attended T.A. training provided by the Graduate College, the student must contact the Associate Dean of the Graduate College, Dr. Algerian Hart, to arrange and complete required T.A. training before May 27, 2022.
- If the student is appointed as a T.A. for summer 2022 and has NOT attended T.A. training provided by the Graduate College, the student must contact the Associate Dean of the Graduate College, Dr. Algerian Hart, to arrange and complete required T.A. training before May 27, 2022.
- It is the Department’s responsibility to ensure that the GA/RA/TA has signed and returned the Graduate Assistant Employment Form to the Graduate College prior to the GA/RA/TA beginning work (the person who submitted the GA Bear PAF in the system can go in and check to make sure that the PAF has been completed and is in HR status).
- It is the Department’s responsibility to ensure that the GA/RA/TA has completed all required Compliance Training and provided copies of their completion certificates to the department. This also applies to the time sheet requirement for the GA.

Graduate program director meetings
The Spring 2022 graduate program director’s meetings have been set for the following dates. Snacks will be provided at the February and March meetings.
- February 17, 2022 – 1st GPD meeting is virtual via Zoom, Noon to 1:00 p.m.
- March 22, 2022 – 2nd GPD meeting in PSU Traywick Parliamentary Room (313), Noon to 1:00 p.m.
- April 25, 2022 – GPD Networking Breakfast in PSU Ballroom East, 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. Breakfast will be provided.
