“Self-care is never a selfish act — it is only good stewardship of the only gift I have, the gift I was put on earth to offer others.” Parker Palmer
Faculty life can be very stressful balancing the multiple roles of teacher, researcher, advisor, and the other responsibilities that come with being part of an academic community. The past two years has heightened everyone’s attention to the need for self-care and wellbeing. The COVID-19 pandemic brought unprecedented challenges to the educational system and many of us have felt mentally and physically exhausted wondering if we could find joy and happiness in our careers again?
The Office of the Provost has collected a list of self-care resources for faculty. In addition, the FCTL is offering an online course titled “The Wellbeing Elixir.” This course was developed by higher ed faculty for faculty to assist them in exploring wellbeing, resilience, and strategies for managing stress in their personal and professional lives. The course is a mix of asynchronous learning and a monthly live group session via Zoom. Faculty will have access for one-year and monthly modules focus on a new topic each month. Topics include self-compassion, joy at work, social wellbeing, the power of play, and emotional intelligence.
