Date: Wednesday, August 17, 2022
Location: Plaster Student Union
This year we will be back in PSU meeting in-person. Faculty-led presentation and poster sessions will be delivered during the morning with lunch and keynote presentation beginning at 11:30 a.m.
Keynote speaker
Our Keynote Speaker will be Dr. Linda B. Nilson, founding director emeritus of the Office of Teaching Effectiveness and Innovation (OTEI) at Clemson University and author of “Teaching at its best: A research-based resource for college instructors” (Jossey-Bass, 2016), now in its fourth edition.
Dr. Nilson’s keynote is titled “Transformative Teaching: How Self-Regulated Learning Can Improve your Students’ Academic Performance.” She will share some of the research showing how to improve students’ exam performance, written and designed products, and problem-solving skills by inducing students to practice self-regulated learning. Through Dr. Nilson’s session, faculty will learn about and be able to implement a small sampling of short, self-regulated learning assignments suitable for the beginning and end of a course.
Showcase Workshop: Transforming your Students into Self-Regulated Learners
During the afternoon, Dr. Nilson will conduct a special workshop that explains and demonstrates specific strategies that you can use to dispel your students’ misconceptions about learning and transform them into self-regulated learners. By the end of this workshop, you will be able to design and integrate into your courses proven self-regulated learning assignments and activities, all of which take little time and will complement your course’s content.
