Online Learning Consortium™ Faculty Workshops

The OLC offers an extensive online learning opportunities for education professionals. Below are just a few of the upcoming workshops.

  • July 11–17: “New to Online, Essentials Part I: Getting Started”
  • July 25–31: “New to Online, Essentials Part II: Converting Your Course”

Attend the summer faculty writing retreat

Dates: Monday, June 27 – Friday, July 1
Time: 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Location: Meyer Alumni Center – Hospitality Room

The retreat is open to anyone working on a scholarly writing project. The goal is for each participant to arrive with a work in progress and leave with a manuscript prepared for submission, but you are welcome to bring writing project at any stage.

This interdisciplinary faculty writing retreat is designed to:

  • Create a motivated and positive environment that fosters excellent work
  • Encourage productivity through accountability and camaraderie
  • Help you accomplish a writing project this summer

Breakfast, coffee, and lunch will be provided.

Mediasite not available after September 15, 2022

Faculty should download video content they want to retain prior to this date. Please see instructions on how to download your presentations. If you do not wish to retain video you have saved to Mediasite Cloud storage, no action is required.

Camtasia is an alternative choice for creating video from your desktop. Faculty can request a Camtasia License through the IT Service Portal.  FCTL Camtasia Workshops will be offered in the fall. The workshops will cover:

  1. Overview of Camtasia software
  2. Creating videos using Camtasia
  3. Editing previously recorded video with Camtasia
  4. Exporting and sharing video for viewing
  5. Best practices to increase production value

Microsoft Stream is the university’s video streaming platform – video content should never be uploaded directly to Blackboard which is NOT a streaming platform. Please see How to Share a Video in Blackboard for step-by-step instructions on sharing or embedding video in your Blackboard course.

Course development boot camp

Dates: Monday, August 8 – Thursday August 11
Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

It’s back, it’s live, and it’s had a bit of a makeover! The Course Development Boot Camp focuses on student-centered teaching and active learning practices regardless of whether you are teaching seated, hybrid, or online.

Coffee and lunch will be provided

Self-Paced FCTL course development boot camps

The resources from the FCTL’s virtual online boot camps are available as a self-paced course development boot camp. This self-paced version will cover many of the same things as the virtual and on-campus boot camps, but you will be participating at your own schedule and can contact the FCTL Instructional Designers at any time during this process. Their contact information is listed in the meet your instructional designers area of the modules.

What’s included in the self-paced course development boot camp

  • Best practices related to online courses and teaching
  • Different assessment options available in Blackboard
  • How to remove potential barriers for students with disabilities
  • Strategies to foster community and engagement in the online classroom
  • Strategies to prevent student cheating
  • Copyright and fair use in distance education

How to find the self-paced boot camp

  • Log into Blackboard and select the Community Tab at the top of the page
  • Select Academic Community from the My Organizations module
  • Once in the site, on the main menu, locate “self-paced course development boot camp” to access the boot camp materials.
