Aidan Williams
Senior: Middle School Education major
Aidan’s belief in the motto, “Pop the College Bubble” has expanded his understanding and implementation of the public affairs mission.
In 2014, Aidan began his involvement with Bear Breaks, a program where students spend their semester break immersed in a different community to learn its culture and provide direct service to help impact local issues. Initially a student participant, Aidan quickly transitioned to trip leader and most recently has been appointed to the executive planning board. Aidan says, “Giving my time and effort in a new community has deepened my appreciation for diversity and allowed me to know and interact with different cultures, nationalities and backgrounds that I had previously not had the opportunity.”
Aidan suggests the importance of following one’s passion and interests when getting involved, and Bear Breaks is one avenue that accommodates that for students. Applying classroom knowledge to the service of others has integrated public affairs into Aidan’s college experience, and provided a way for him to demonstrate to others what it means to be a Citizen Bear.
For living the public affairs mission through service to others, we are pleased to honor Aidan Williams as the November 2017 Student Public Affairs Spotlight.
