Priscilla Childress
Assistant Director, New Student and Family Programs
Community engagement is an important part of being a MO State Bear. This fact is not overlooked by Priscilla Childress whose strong desire to help others and her community has spanned nearly 3 decades.
Since her niece was diagnosed with cancer back in 1993 Priscilla has devoted volunteer time with the American Cancer Society, as well as St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. With their mission to combat cancer through research and advocacy, she helps plan fundraising events and participates in various activities such as Relay for Life.
Priscilla volunteers her off time for other organizations including Ronald McDonald House and the Girl Scouts of America, specializing in collecting donations. She also organizes a donation drive for the Veterans Student Organization on campus to provide coffee and other supplies for their student lounge. Priscilla says that even though she cannot give a lot of extra money to these projects, she likes to do what she can by collecting donations from others and advertising the needs of these organizations to the community.
Priscilla is also looking forward to being involved in the Speak Up program that advocates for mental health programming in high schools and middle schools. She is passionate about students receiving proper mental health care and education on what it means to be mentally healthy. For this reason, she serves on the planning committee for the Impact Summit, a regional conference hosted by Missouri State University to start a conversation about collegiate mental health. Overall, Priscilla is hard at work improving her community and living out the Public Affairs mission. Thank you and congratulations, Priscilla!
