Leadership Programs Specialist, International Programs
Daezia is extremely passionate about providing a high quality educational experience for MSU’s international students. From their initial welcome onto campus, Daezia plays an essential role in the ongoing education, involvement and well-being of these students who are far from their home countries. In 2017-2018, she co-created Global Leaders and Mentors (GLaM), an organization that creates and develops peer to peer relationships between US and international students. During the pandemic, she was instrumental in helping international students adapt to a virtual learning format while continuing to engage in cultural experiences.
This past year, Daezia welcomed several Russian students to MSU through the Year of Exchange in America for Russians (The “YEAR” program). Adapting to a virtual format, this program was able to continue teaching students about United States culture, government, religion, history, and other topics. Daezia states, “I love giving students the space to explore their interests and help them grow into their own self awareness. I am extremely humbled to work with students from all over the world.”
We are pleased to spotlight Daezia Smith as she models and shares our public affairs mission well beyond the borders of our campus and nation.
