Study Away with Religious Studies!

Join the Department of Religious Studies as we travel to Haiti during spring break 2019 and Israel in May 2019 – both Study Away trips offer course credits and new adventures!

October 2, 2018 by Jane Terry

The Department of Religious Studies is offering two Study Away opportunities for students this academic year.  Join us as we travel to Haiti during spring break 2019, and/or Israel in May 2019.  Both Study Away trips include course credits, along with the chance to visit another country, meet people, make friends, eat new foods, and, of course, have fun!

“Seeing Clearly in Haiti” reprises our previous successful spring break service trips to Haiti, part of MSU’s Vision Screening project, to enable under-served Haitian students and teachers to “see more clearly” by facilitating eye exams and providing eyeglasses, and for MSU students to “see more clearly” the needs of others and their own ability to make a difference.  Travel dates: 8-16 March, 2019; application deadline: 1 November 2018.  More information may be found here: HaitiSeeClearly

“Israel: The History, Religions, and Politics of Israel” is a joint venture by the departments of Religious Studies (Dr. Vadim Putzu), Political Science (Dr. David Romano), and History (Dr. Djene Bajalan), so students have multiple course credit options from which to choose.  Learn about the religions, politics, and history of this remarkable part of the world, modern Israel-Palestine, and more fully understand the people, places, and events that became central to the construction of modern Zionism.  Travel dates: 20-31 May 2019; application deadline: 1 December 2018.  More information may be found here: Israel2019
