Homecoming is a time to celebrate our current and former students, as well as a fun event for all of our Missouri State University community. This homecoming, which took place last weekend, 16-17 October, also provided an opportunity to recognize our faculty and staff who excelled at their job and significantly contributed to the success of our students. Every year a few of these individuals are nominated and chosen to be inducted into the MSU Wall of Fame.
This year, our very own Dr. Jim Moyer was inducted into the MSU Wall of Fame for his excellence in teaching and mentoring over his 45 year career at MSU. According to the MSU blog post (https://news.missouristate.edu/2021/05/14/wof21/): “Dr. James Moyer (1970-2015) was revered. He was an accomplished Biblical scholar who inspired colleagues. Moreover, he was a devoted professor who sparked students to do their best work, and a trusted advisor for students who needed additional guidance and support.”
As one of his students, I can attest to his excellent teaching – he always looked for ways to improve his teaching techniques and increase students’ success, and always made time for students who needed extra help or advice. Additionally, he mentored not just students but faculty as well, offering continued workshops for new faculty at the university to ensure that they had the tools and guidance to become the best teachers they could be.
Jim Moyer joins our other two faculty members who were inducted into the Wall of Fame: Dr. Gerrit tenZythoff in 2002 and Dr. Charlie Hedrick (also one of my professors!) in 2010.
Congratulations to Jim Moyer!
