Bunkable Beds vs. Loftable Beds

October 3, 2023 by Kallen A. Brown

We have two different types of beds in our residence halls: beds that bunk, and beds that loft.

Bunkable beds can be stacked using metal pegs that you can check out from the front desk. Bunkable beds are found in Blair-Shannon, Freddy, Hammons, Hutchens, Scholars and Wells residence halls. Bunkable beds cannot be lofted. Bed risers can be used on these types of beds, but only if they are unbunked.

Loftable beds can move up and down on the frame, leaving you with more or less space under your bed. At their max height, you can comfortably fit your desk or 3-drawer dresser underneath. Loftable beds are found in Heitz, Kentwood and Woods. Loftable beds cannot be bunked. Bed risers cannot be used on these types of beds.

Beware of Vampire Energy

November 17, 2022 by Kallen A. Brown

Beware of Vampire Energy

What is Vampire Energy? Vampire energy is the term given to electrical appliances that consume energy, even when they are shut off. Every cord that remains plugged into an outlet uses an electrical current waiting to be turned on. These devices are known as remote-ready appliances and include desktop computers and displays, printers, TVs, microwaves and video game consoles. Devices such as your cell phone and laptop also consume energy when left on the charger after fully charged. According to the National Resource Defence Council, Americans spend about $19 billion per year on vampire energy costs. Unplugging devices that are not in use can help prevent the consumption of vampire energy.

Help us conserve energy during Thanksgiving and winter break by unplugging your devices from outlets and turning off powerstrips.

Move-out Information

May 20, 2022 by Kallen A. Brown

While you begin to prepare for exams, we want to share our move-out plans and what steps you may need to take, as well as information regarding summer housing options.

Our buildings close at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 21.

This week, all Resident Assistants (RAs) will be hosting closing floor meetings. It’s important you attend because they will cover everything you need to know to check out successfully and avoid being charged for damages/cleanliness. Failure to check out with an RA could result in the following charges:

  • Improper Check-Out: $75
  • Keys & Access Card Replacement: $95
  • Packing Fee: $150 minimum
  • Damages/Cleanliness: varies based on the condition of your room

You will need to sign-up for a day and time to check out with an RA. Please do this as soon as possible, but at least 24 hours before you plan on checking out. Information should be available for you on your floor and throughout your building. On the day of your checkout, please remove your belongings, clean your space, and then meet with the RA you signed up with for them to inspect your room and take your keys/access card.

Starting today at 10:00 pm, 23/7 quiet hours are in effect; this means quiet hours are 10:00 pm – 9:00 pm daily for the remainder of the semester. Please attend your floor meeting, talk to your RA, or go to the front desk for more information.

To request housing beyond 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 21 if you’re staying for intersession classes:

You will need to fill out the Summer Housing Application. All students with a summer housing contract will be relocated to Hammons House on Saturday, May 21 (unless you currently live in Sunvilla or Monroe).

You can find the summer housing application by going to the following:

My.MissouriState.edu, Campus Life tab, Housing channel,
Complete Application link, Summer 2022

We wish you good luck on your finals and hope you continue to stay safe and healthy. Please let us know if you have any questions.
