The 2013 Bears Athletic Training Camp concluded Saturday after a exciting week of fun and learning! 15 high school students from all over Missouri and Oklahoma participated in this camp designed for students who are interested in gaining basic athletic training knowledge and skills.
Camp participants worked alongside Certified Athletic Trainers and MSU athletic training students throughout the week as they were led through sessions that introduced skills involved in the profession. The camp included one-on-one instruction in taping and wrapping techniques, behind the scenes tours of athletic facilities on and off campus, including HeathTracks and the Springfield Cardinals Stadium. Additionally students learned about wound care, injury prevention, common injuries, heat illnesses, environmental concerns, nutrition, performance enhancement, and much more!
On the last night, campers participated in an all night lock-in which included, fun, food, games, movies, and the occasional taping competition! Camp concluded Saturday morning with the Athletic Training Olympics. Parents watched as students tested their skills in a head to head competition.
The Sports Medicine and Athletic Training Department was thrilled to offer this 3rd annual camp and wants to thank all Certified Athletic Trainers and SMAT students who assisted for their time. Most of all, the SMAT Department wants to thank the high school student camp participants for their eagerness to learn about athletic training and enthusiastic attitudes throughout the camp!
