This past weekend, several Missouri State University Athletic Training Students and faculty traveled to Central Methodist University to attend the 4th Annual Educator’s and Student Leadership Conference. This year, the focus of the conference was the neurological, psychosocial, and educational aspects of traumatic brain injury and the identification of various screening tools utilized for identifying individuals who are at risk for mental health issues related to self-harm or harming others. Further, students attended afternoon sessions that focused on professional networking. Faculty educators attended afternoon sessions on improving Preceptor feedback and engagement as well as a presentation from Kristin Tivener and Tona Hetzler on high-fidelity simulation based athletic training education.
The conference concluded with the 2016 student Quiz Bowl competition. The MSU team included AT students Carson Powell, Jacob Briggs, and Tyler Triggs. Although the team did not place in the top two, they represented the department well and fought hard during this compeition. Congratulations to the top two teams, Truman State University and Central Methodist University who will be advancing to the District Quiz Bowl competition in March.
The MAATA District meeting will be held in Springfield, MO on March 17-19, 2016. We hope to see all AT students, ATs, and Preceptors there! For more information and to register for this conference, please visit http://www.maatad5.org/Events/37th-annual-maata-meeting-symposium-registration-page/
