Congratulations to faculty members Dr. Michael Hudson of the Sports Medicine and Athletic Training Department and Dr. Ashlea Cardin of the Occupational Therapy Department for their recent publication in the Journal of Allied Health.
Dr. Hudson and Dr. Cardin surveyed occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, and therapy assistants about their perceived value of evidence-based practice (EBP). In addition, they examined the EBP-focused activities these participants used in their clinical practice, as well as the barriers and enablers they perceived to EBP. While all types of therapists surveyed highly valued the personal and professional aspects of EBP and perceived moderate workplace support and preparedness to EBP, they also utilized lower levels of evidence to guide their practice decisions (e.g., past experience and expert opinion). In addition, the therapists surveyed tended not to use self-reflection techniques to examine their clinical practice.
